Četrdeset pet vitezova, sv. 1-2

Četrdeset pet vitezova, sv. 1-2

Alexandre Dumas

Alexandre Dumas – The Forty-Five Knights, published in 1966, is part of a grand trilogy about the political and religious turmoil in France during the late 16th century.

"The Forty-Five Knights" is set during the reign of Henry III, at a time when France was torn between Catholics and Huguenots (Protestants). The title refers to the forty-five bodyguards of the king, chosen from the nobility to ensure his own safety in a politically unstable time. The Forty-Five Knights completes Dumas's historical-political trilogy about France during the turbulent period of the Wars of Religion. Although not as well-known as The Three Musketeers, this work offers a deep insight into courtly power struggles, loyalty, betrayal, and personal honor.

This is the story of the love of two young people, Marguerite Gautier and Armand Duval. Although relationships between men and women have always been complicated enough on their own, this is no typical tale of unrequited love.
