Oproštaj od moderne
The book Farewell to Modernity is a collection of philosophical essays in which Danilo Pejović reflects on the crisis of the modern era and its fundamental ideas.
The central theme of the book is questioning the fate of the modern concept of the subject and reason. Pejović considers how the ideals of the Enlightenment, which were supposed to bring liberation and progress, in historical practice often resulted in technocracy, ideologies and totalitarian systems. Thus, modernity, instead of liberating man, produces new forms of alienation. The author relies on the thought of philosophers such as Hegel, Marx, Nietzsche and Heidegger, observing modernity as a process that is simultaneously realized and disintegrated. He pays special attention to the concept of nihilism and the loss of metaphysical foothold in the contemporary world. The “farewell” in the title does not simply mean the rejection of modernity, but a critical confrontation with its limits and an attempt to search for new spiritual landmarks. Pejović’s style is essayistic and philosophically demanding, with an emphasis on the interpretation of classical philosophical texts. The book represents a reflection on the end of an era and the need for a different way of thinking after the collapse of the great ideological projects of the 20th century.
