Ispovijesti Katarine Medici

Ispovijesti Katarine Medici

C. W. Gortner

From the opulent courts of France, a story arrives, stronger and more powerful than many told so far. This is her story.

When she turned fourteen, Catherine de Medici, the last heir to the illustrious lineage of Lorenzo the Magnificent, went to France to be engaged to Hernicus II, son of the French King Francis I. In the new, unknown kingdom, Catherine tried to fight for her position by all means at her disposal, including the advice of the famous Nostradamus and her own clairvoyant powers. Before turning forty, she became a widow and was left alone with six children in a kingdom ravaged by an ambitious and treacherous nobility. In a thankless time when the religious wars between the Huguenots and Catholics were at their peak, she fought for France to prevent a general massacre, unaware of the fact that she would not be able to escape the prophetic destiny and that in order to save France she would have to sacrifice her own ideals, reputation and the secret she kept deep in her heart. This story, unlike the legend of Catherine as a brutal and unscrupulous ruler, is also the story of the Catherine that history does not know - a wife, lover, and mother who did everything to protect those she loved.
