Povijest Bosne u doba osmanlijske vlade I-II

Povijest Bosne u doba osmanlijske vlade I-II

Milan Prelog

An overview of Ottoman rule in Bosnia through political, social and economic changes and the creation of a new order. Reprint from 1913.

Milan Prelog's work History of Bosnia under Ottoman rule I–II depicts the Ottoman advance and consolidation in Bosnia from the 15th century to the late Ottoman period. He analyses military conquests, the gradual disintegration of the medieval Bosnian state and the reshaping of social structures under the new administration. Of particular note are changes in the land system, the introduction of timars and the new hierarchy of feudal relations. The work also covers the spread of Islam, the processes of Islamisation and the coexistence of different confessions within the Ottoman administrative framework. Prelog emphasises the development of urban centres, the emergence of oriental-type cities and the growth of trade networks connecting Bosnia with Anatolia, the Balkans and the Mediterranean. In the second part of the book, he discusses the functioning of the pashalik, the role of local elites, captaincies and Janissary influence, as well as occasional internal rebellions and reforms in the late period. The book provides a broad overview of political events, but also deep insights into everyday life, the legal system, the economy and cultural changes, creating a comprehensive picture of the Ottoman era in Bosnia.
