Kreni!
The novel Kreni!, written based on true events, tells the story of Operation June Dawn in 1992 and pays tribute to the fallen Croatian defenders through descriptions of the fates of real people and their sacrifice.
Go! is a novel inspired by true events from the Homeland War, dedicated to the fallen Croatian defenders in the military operation June Dawn in 1992 on the Southern Front. Through the intertwined destinies of soldiers, their families and comrades, Anita Martinac reconstructs the time in which the fate of the Neretva Valley and Mostar was being decided, combining documentary credibility with the emotional power of a literary narrative.
The novel centers on the course of Operation June Dawn, depicted through the experiences of real people who participated in the liberation of the occupied territories. The author not only brings war scenes, but also personal doubts, friendships, loves, fears and losses that accompany anyone who finds themselves in the whirlwind of war. At the same time, the narrative follows the echo of these events in the present day, raising the question of how much society remembers those who gave their lives for freedom.
The book is given special value by the extensive research on which it is based, and the appendix with biographies and photographs of all sixty-seven fallen veterans in Operation June Dawns, which makes the novel a permanent written monument to their sacrifice. Go! is not only a war novel, but also a literary call to preserve the culture of memory, the dignity of the Homeland War, and responsibility towards the people whose sacrifice shaped contemporary Croatian history.
