Agatha Christie

Crime novel by Agatha Christie, first published in 1942. In the center of the plot is the legendary detective Miss Marple, who solves the mysterious murder of a seemingly unrelated young woman in a quiet, idyllic English village.

In the home of Colonel Arthur Bantry and his wife Dolly, in their private library, the body of a young woman in evening dress was found. None of the housemates know the victim, which causes shock and disbelief. In order to solve the case and protect the reputation of the Bantry family, Miss Marple is called in, who with her perceptive mind immediately notices incongruous details.

The investigation reveals that the victim is Ruby Keene, a young dancer from a local hotel. As the story develops, the complex relationships between the hotel guests and the villagers are revealed. Many are suspicious, including the rich old man who planned to adopt Ruby, his jealous family and colleagues in the dance world.

Miss Marple, using her understanding of human nature and keen intuition, connects a series of seemingly unrelated clues. Through her analysis, a complex scheme of deceit and revenge involving greed, jealousy and false identities is revealed.
