Eseji o sociologiji kulture

Karl Mannheim

A collection of texts by the founders of the sociology of knowledge analyzes how social conditions, class position, and historical circumstances shape the intellectual life, ideologies, art, and general culture of society.

Essays on the Sociology of Culture (posthumously published in 1956) is one of the key works of the German-British sociologist Karl Mannheim, a pioneer of the sociology of knowledge and culture. This collection of studies elaborates on the author's fundamental thesis: thought, works of art, political ideas and cultural patterns are not independent spiritual creations, but are deeply rooted in social reality, class affiliation and a specific historical moment.

Through content units, Mannheim explores how social structures are reflected in intellectual elites, ways of thinking and cultural changes. He is particularly concerned with the problem of intelligence ("free-floating intelligentsia") and the question of how different social groups create their own worldview (Weltanschauung). The author analyzes processes such as the democratization and massification of culture, and the role of knowledge in stabilizing or destroying the existing social order.

Combining the influences of Marxism, phenomenology and historicism, Mannheim offers a precise analytical framework for understanding the cultural dynamics of the modern era. The book represents essential reading for sociology, philosophy, and cultural theory, providing lasting tools for the critical analysis of ideologies and cultural phenomena.
