Djela XIII: Theatralia: Scenski pokušaji, članci o kazalištu i koncertima, dio prvi (1897.–1909.)

The thirteenth volume Theatralia: Stage Attempts, Articles on Theatre and Concerts, Part One (1897–1909) is part of the first edition of the collected works of Antun Gustav Matoš, published in 17 volumes by Binoza between 1935 and 1940. This edition represents the first systematic attempt to gather and critically organize Matoš's literary legacy and occupies an important place in the history of Croatian literature.

The volume brings together Matoš's dramatic attempts, theatre criticism, performance reviews and reviews of concert life written between 1897 and 1909. As a thorough expert on European literature and theatre, Matoš analyses acting interpretations, directing, dramaturgy, musical performances and repertoire policy, while applying high aesthetic criteria. His texts are characterized by their sharp style, wit, polemics and exceptional ability to connect Croatian cultural events with European artistic trends.

The volume was edited by Julije Benešić, while Matoš's brother, Milan Matoš, collected and edited the writer's legacy. Thanks to their work, a valuable corpus of texts has been preserved that testifies to Matoš's contribution to Croatian theatrology, music criticism and cultural journalism. This edition provides a valuable insight into the development of Croatian theater and concert life at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries and confirms Matoš as one of the most influential Croatian literary and theater critics.
