Izabrana djela, sv. I.: Dramske slike i poeme

Aleksandar Sergejevič Puškin

The first volume of Pushkin's selected works brings dramatic images and poems: from scenes from Faust and Mozart and Salieri to The Bronze Horseman and Poltava, combining drama, lyricism and history.

Selected Works, Vol. I. Dramatic Images and Poems is a rare antiquarian copy from 1943, of interest to lovers of Russian literature, collectors of older editions, and researchers of the history of translation alike. This first volume brings together a selection of Pushkin's dramatic texts and poems and represents a valuable literary and cultural document of its time.

The following dramatic images stand out in the content: A Scene from Faust, A Visit in a Time of Plague, Mozart and Salieri, The Miserly Knight, The Stone Guest, and The Mermaid. These works reveal Pushkin as a master of concise dramatic form, powerful dialogue, and grand themes - temptation, envy, passion, greed, guilt, and fate. In them, the classical motifs of the European tradition are transformed into a recognizable, dense, and suggestive poetic expression.

The whole is complemented by selected poems: The Little House in Kolomna, The Bronze Horseman, Poltava and The Robber Brothers. These texts testify to the breadth of Pushkin's oeuvre, from irony and narrative lightness to historical drama and powerful social images. Of particular importance is The Bronze Horseman, one of Pushkin's most famous works, often highlighted as the pinnacle of his narrative poetry.

This edition is given additional value by the Croatian translation by Tomislav Prpić, which makes the book an important trace of the reception of Russian classics in the domestic cultural environment. As an edition from the war year of 1943, this volume also carries a special bibliographic and historical weight. This is a rare antiquarian copy that goes beyond reader interest and becomes the subject of collector's attention - valuable as an old edition, as a testimony to a publishing era and as an encounter with one of the key authors of European literature.
