Pod apsolutizmom: Historija šestoga decenija hrvatske književnosti (1850.-1860.)

Nikola Andrić

A scholarly study by Nikola Andrić on Croatian literature in the period of Bach's absolutism (1850–1860). A thorough analysis of literary life, writers, and works in one of the most difficult political periods in Croatian history. First edition from 1906.

Nikola Andrić in his book Under Absolutism provides a detailed history of Croatian literature in the sixth decade of the 19th century, more precisely in the period of Bach's Absolutism (1850–1860). The work represents a systematic and documented analysis of literary creation at a time when the Croatian people were under strong political and cultural pressure from Viennese centralism.

Andrić describes the difficult conditions in which Croatian writers worked, restrictions on freedom, censorship, but also the persistent struggle to preserve the national language and identity. He pays special attention to the writers and works of that period, literary movements, magazines and cultural events. The book is written in a serious, scientific style, but with a visible patriotic and national charge.

This work is considered one of the most important literary-historical works by Nikola Andrić and a valuable contribution to the study of 19th-century Croatian literature. Today, antiquarian books with high cultural and historical value are in high demand, especially among collectors and researchers of Croatian literary history.

Viktor Žmegač
