"The Dragon of Bosnia" by Josip Eugen Tomić is a historical novel that follows the life of Husein-Captain Gradaščević, the leader of the Bosnian uprising against the Ottoman Empire in the first half of the 19th century.
The plot of the novel focuses on the political and social conditions in Bosnia at that time, portraying Husein as a brave and charismatic leader who fights for the autonomy of Bosnia and the rights of his people.
The novel provides vivid descriptions of conflicts, intrigues and alliances within the Ottoman Empire and emphasizes Husein's determination and moral strength in the fight against unjust government. Although he succeeds in uniting Bosnian Muslims, Orthodox and Catholics, his movement is eventually defeated due to political intrigues and military defeats.
