Deže Kostolanji je izuzetni mađarski umetnik, poreklom iz Subotice, koji se ostvario u mnogim književnim rodovima, od poezije preko esejistike do pozorišnih komada.

Ovaj roman je sačinjen od niza novela, nastalih tridesetih godina dvadesetog veka, koje objedinjuje glavna ličnost. Pisac bravurozno ostvaruje lik od građe koja je i intimno njegova a dobar deo atmosfere oko Kornela nije samo Kostolanjijev doživljaj sveta, nego i doživljaj lokalnog u Subotici. Tanan i prefinjen humor, jedno je od svojstava ovog romana, pravi odgovor razuzdanom i raspomamljenom svetu.
