Rat poslije rata: Vinkovci - Vukovar - Županja

Rat poslije rata: Vinkovci - Vukovar - Županja

Davor Runtić

The book deals with the complex post-war period and the process of peaceful reintegration of the Croatian Danube region. The focus is on security, political and social challenges in Vinkovci, Vukovar and Županja after 1995.

The work War after War: Vinkovci – Vukovar – Županja by the famous Croatian publicist and war correspondent Davor Runtić provides a detailed insight into the extremely sensitive and dramatic period immediately after the end of the main war operations in Croatia. The author focuses on the area of Eastern Slavonia and Western Srijem – key points in which the process of peaceful reintegration of the Croatian Danube region under the administration of UNTAES took place.

Through richly documented material, the author analyzes the specific dynamics of the "war without weapons", i.e. the political, intelligence, legal and psychological struggles that followed the signing of the Erdut Agreement. Special emphasis is placed on the everyday life of the population in the Vinkovci – Vukovar – Županja triangle, where the problems of the return of displaced persons, the reconstruction of destroyed infrastructure, the establishment of security and the exhumation and identification of victims from mass graves intertwined.

The book is an important testimony to the complexity of the transition from a state of war to peace, highlighting the invisible efforts and challenges faced by the local population, Croatian institutions and international forces on the way to full sovereignty.
