Uskrs pod zidom, i druge priče

Kazimir Klarić

"Easter Under the Wall, and Other Stories" is a collection of short stories by author Kazimir Klarić, imbued with a deeply humanistic, Christian and patriotic spirit, with a strong emphasis on moral responsibility, faith, suffering and redemption.

Klarić, known for his thoughtful and engaged literary expression, portrays ordinary people faced with extraordinary circumstances in these stories – war, prison, illness, loss and personal moral dilemmas.

The title story "Easter under the Wall" is powerful and symbolic – it depicts a prisoner in a communist prison who, although deprived of his freedom, spiritually experiences Easter through inner struggle, hope and faith. The prison wall becomes a metaphor for everything that separates a person from truth and light, but also a place of personal transformation.

The other stories in the collection vary in theme – from war traumas, family tragedies, to fateful moments in the lives of ordinary people. Klarić writes simply but deeply, using realistic descriptions and interior monologues to bring the reader closer to existential questions and the search for meaning.

The special value of the collection lies in the ethical departure from cynicism and nihilism, and in the affirmation of Christian values, forgiveness and personal conscience. Although marked by suffering, the stories do not carry despair, but quiet hope and faith in man's ability to find light in the darkness.

"Easter Under the Wall" is a testimony to a time and a man who, even in humiliation, remains upright - and the collection remains a valuable contribution to Croatian literature on spiritual and moral themes.
