Nikola Tordinac

Nikola Tordinac was a Croatian writer, priest and collector of national treasures, born in Đakovo on December 5, 1858, and died there on February 21, 1888.

Despite some considering his work unfinished, he produced a significant body of work that includes poems, short stories, essays, travelogues, and translations from German, as well as collections of oral traditions and ethnographic material. Early travels to Sarajevo and Derventa influenced his literary and collecting work. He studied at the Đakovo Seminary, and later in Rome, where he became a professor of philosophy and Latin. Tordinč's literary works include Croatian Folk Songs and Stories from Bosnia and Village Fairy Tales and Sorcery, and posthumous publications and collections further highlight his contribution. He is also known for publishing the first translation of Karl May's works.
