Lancelot

Lancelot

Giles Kristian

The story, told from Lancelot's perspective, follows his life from childhood to the legendary Knight of the Round Table.

Eight-year-old Lancelot, the younger son of the King of Benoic, is the only survivor of a bloody attack on his family. Driven by a desire for revenge, he leaves home and, under the guidance of the druid Merlin and the lady Nimue, hone his warrior skills. He meets Guinevere, a wild and talented girl, and later Arthur, a charismatic military leader who holds the hope of saving Britain from invasions by the Saxons, Franks, and Picts. Lancelot becomes a skilled warrior, but his life is marked by the conflict between his love for Guinevere, his loyalty to Arthur, and his internal struggles with jealousy and betrayal. The novel explores Lancelot's torn between passion and duty, portraying him as a complex hero - warrior, friend, lover, and legend. Christian masterfully blends historical fiction with elements of myth, offering a fresh perspective on Lancelot, often portrayed as a villain in relation to Arthur. The prose is rich, emotional, and imbued with detailed descriptions of post-Roman Britain, with an emphasis on themes of love, betrayal, and the fate of the kingdom. Critics praise the work as a masterpiece, highlighting its depth and poetic style.
