Album
You look at a photograph and suddenly you see reality the way the photograph wants you to...
The notes in which the author attempts to recreate, from memory, a family album destroyed in the war, when his family had to leave their home in occupied Petrinja, show us how good prose is regularly created in moments when we lose something. After the war, the narrator is given an unusual compensation—an undeveloped film with footage of an unknown family that lived in his house during the occupation. These photographs, ironically, also become part of the family album in the book's poignant finale.
