Despite all the obstacles, Maigret remains faithful to his distinctive, methodical style of work, observing human traits and psychological aspects of the characters in order to uncover the truth.

The novel is characterized by Simenon's distinctive style - an atmospheric and realistic story, characters that are lifelike and convincing, and a masterful description of city life.
