Smrt Smail-age Čengića, klasično djelo hrvatske književnosti, romantični je spjev od 1134 stiha (osmeraca i deseteraca) komponiranih u pet pjevanja, nastao djelomice po narudžbi Dimitrija Demetra.

Osnovnu građu Mažuranić pronalazi u zbiljskome događaju, pogibiji turskoga junaka i hercegovačkoga paše Smail-age Čengića u sukobu s Crnogorcima u jesen 1840. Osnovna ideja spjeva je prolaznost sile, vjera u pravdu i konačnu pobjedu dobra u životu.
