Tuđman i budućnost Hrvatske

Tuđman i budućnost Hrvatske

Thomas Patrick Melady

The book by a former American diplomat is a documentary and memoir about Franja Tuđman. The author investigates the Croatian country and people, and the role of Tuđman as a dominant personality in the birth of a new state.

I was his adviser on public issues and worked with him on establishing diplomatic relations with Israel and in areas of political and religious pluralism. His mind was focused primarily on the state. It was a long and difficult struggle. Few people understand the efforts and trials in creating an independent state out of the sea of post-Tito Yugoslavia. Franjo Tuđman experienced this very well. Most of the Eastern European countries passed without bloodshed from Soviet rule to freedom in 1989-1990. But Croatia had to fight a bloody war for independence, which caused numerous sufferings to the population and led to the destruction of many cities... The role of Franjo Tuđman in the creation of the Croatian state and its president in the first years of the republic will surely be the subject of numerous historical evaluations. More than a thousand years of history have influenced the creation of the values and culture of the Croatian people. This was the foundation for the creation of the Croatian community after the Second World War. Franjo Tuđman was the dominant personality of that period. Did he reflect those values and make them known on the world stage?
