Od norme do uporabe 1: Zbornik radova sa znanstvenog skupa Od norme do uporabe
Twelve linguistic studies examine Croatian language norms and actual usage through language history, accentuation, grammar, terminology, slang and lexicography.
Od norme do uporabe 1 brings together twelve papers from a scholarly conference held in Osijek in 2016. Its central concern is the relationship between prescribed linguistic rules and actual Croatian usage, approached through contemporary and historical research.
The collection considers how standard-language norms develop, operate and come under scrutiny. It explores encounters between standard and non-standard varieties, examining the interaction of linguistic prescriptions with changing practices and communicative needs.
Topics range from accentuation and word formation to grammar and specialist terminology. Individual studies address feminine occupational terms, case alternations, temporal expressions, creativity in slang and the dictionary treatment of fashionable words. Historical contributions examine earlier grammatical works, the Slavonian dialect and Croatian New Church Slavonic.
By connecting general questions with specific examples, the volume offers several perspectives on language change and codification. It will interest Croatian-language specialists, philology students, teachers, editors and readers seeking to understand why prescribed norms and everyday linguistic practice do not always coincide.
