The collection includes the following short stories: "The Shoemaker and the Devil", "The Stone Wedding", "The House of the Kug", "The Fall of Venice" and "The Death of Petar Svačić", with which this famous writer occupies a special place in the history of

Šenoa achieved great success with these lyrical-epic works with motifs from history or folk tradition. They are characterized by ease of expression, emphasized rhythm and, often, a humorous tone. Eights and tens with obligatory rhyme predominate. As a means of national and patriotic education, Šenoa's stories always contain a current note and a clear ideological message.

The edition is fully adapted to the needs of school reading and teaching of the Croatian language, and is equipped with a so-called methodological practicum for students, teachers and parents, which contains a detailed content-expressive analysis of the stories with appropriate questions, and is also accompanied by a dictionary of lesser-known words, photographic material, as well as a note on the life of August Šenoa.
