Indijanska poezija

The publication Indian Poetry, translated by Božo Kukolja, represents an anthological cross-section of the poetic traditions of North American indigenous peoples. The collection includes poems from various tribes – from the Pueblo and Navajo to the Ojibwa and Sioux – preserving the simplicity, ritual rhythm and strong pictorial motifs that characterize their oral literature. Thematically, the poems speak of the relationship to nature, the cycles of the seasons, hunting, war, peace, dreams, visions and ancestral spirits. Kukolja translates with an emphasis on conciseness and musicality, striving to convey the original tone of prayer, gratitude and contemplation.
