Dobar dan, drugovi

Dobar dan, drugovi

Ondjaki

Good Day, Comrades is a charming novel, subtle in its depiction of the political difficulties of a small, little-known African nation.

When teachers give the boy Ndalu and his school friends a free topic, they draw tanks and rifles, and write about the war in their essays. And how could they not? Ndalu's childhood takes place in Luanda, Angola, and the year is 1990. Soldiers patrol and march the streets, Cubans teach them at school, and food is bought with vouchers. Despite this, the schoolboy Ndalu charms readers with his imagination, which is full of exciting stories, fun, and laughter. Ondjaki's novel Good Day, Comrades speaks from a child's perspective about the events in war-torn Angola, magical childhood, and true friendship. Written in simple, fluent language, colored with warmth and vitality, the novel simultaneously presents the reader with a touching human story and insight into the political history of a distant African country.
