Dunda i druge novele
Radnja je smeštena u vreme francusko-pruskog rata (1870–1871), a radnja počinje bekstvom francuskih državljana iz Ruana, pod pruskom okupacijom. Među njima je i Elizabet Ruse, "Dunda", devojka lakog morala ali dobrog srca.
Grupu čine pripadnici različitih društvenih klasa – bogati trgovci, aristokrate i monahinje – svi oni duboko licemerno osuđuju Dandu zbog njenog zanimanja. Međutim, kada im pruski oficir zaustavi putovanje i uslovi prolaz pod uslovom da Dunda provede noć kod njega, situacija se menja. U početku svi odbacuju tu ideju, podržavajući Dundino odbijanje, ali je vremenom, pod pritiskom i manipulacijama, postepeno nagovaraju da popusti - sve kako bi mogli da nastave svoj put.
Dunda na kraju pristaje da se žrtvuje za dobro svih, ali nakon što ispuni ono što su tražili od nje, njeni saputnici je ponovo preziru i ignorišu. Priča se završava scenom ponižene i slomljene Dunde kako tiho plače, dok je ostali putnici hladno odbacuju.
U "Dundama" Mopasant oštro kritikuje ljudsko licemerje, društvene predrasude i sebičnost, stvarajući moćan portret moralno superiornog pojedinca koji postaje žrtva društvenog licemerja. Priča je jedno od njegovih najpoznatijih i najznačajnijih dela, prepoznato po svojoj realističkoj snazi i psihološkoj dubini.
