Kronike iz Narnije VII: Posljednja bitka

C. S. Lewis

In the last days of Narnia, the monkey Shift deceives the Narnians with a fake Aslan (the donkey Puzzle). King Tirian, Jill and Eustace fight against the deception and the Calormenes. In the Stable House, a door opens to Aslan's world. Narnia is falling,

In the last days of Narnia, King Tirian rules the land. Rumors are heard that Aslan has returned - but this is a lie. The monkey Shift, cunning and greedy, dresses the donkey Puzzle in a lion's skin and presents him as Aslan. In this way, he deceives the Narnians and brings the Calormenes (people from the south) to destroy old Narnia "in the name of Aslan": they cut down the talking trees, kill the fauna, sell the animals into slavery.

Tirian, realizing the deception, kills the Calormene captain and is captured. In desperation, he calls for help - and Aslan brings Jill and Eustace Scrubb (now elderly) from England. They free Tirian and try to wake the Narnians, but too late: the false Aslan and the Calormenes take over.

The final battle is fought at Stable House (where the false Aslan is). The Narnians fight bravely, but one by one they die. Tirian, Jill and Eustace enter the Stable House – and discover that it is a portal to the real world of Aslan. Inside, all the old heroes are waiting for them: Peter, Edmund, Lucy, Digory, Polly, Susan (who is “no longer interested in Narnia” and has not come), Caspian, Rilian and the rest.

Aslan judges all creatures: the good go to his country, the bad disappear into darkness. Narnia falls apart: the sea swallows the land, the stars fall, time ends. Aslan destroys the old world and opens a new one – a perfect, eternal Narnia, where there is no sorrow, death or separation.

The children understand: they died in a train accident in England and are now forever in Aslan’s country. The story ends with the words: “All the days of their lives were just covers and content; now the first chapters of the real story are just beginning.”

The allegory is about the Last Judgment, false prophets, faith in difficult times and eternal life in God.
