Grigor Vitez

Grigor Vitez's collection of poems "The Game Continues" was published in the 1950s and is one of the most important in Croatian children's literature. Through this collection, Vitez speaks with the voice of children and for children, celebrating children'

Thematically, the collection is diverse – it encompasses everyday children's experiences, relationships with nature, family, friendship, as well as resistance to the strict rules and seriousness of the adult world.

The central motif of the collection is play, which is presented not only as a form of entertainment, but as a symbol of free spirit, joy and resistance to everything that holds it back. Vitez often contrasts the world of children and the world of adults, emphasizing how children, despite all obstacles, manage to preserve their cheerfulness and imagination. The poems are written in simple, rhythmic language, rich in images and sounds reminiscent of children's songs and games.

The collection encourages children to think, observe the world and express their own feelings. At the same time, it sends a message to adults not to forget the beauty and importance of childhood. "The Play Continues" is not just literature for children – it is a strong message about the value of children's freedom, creativity and hope.
