In Aquamarina, Hailey and Claire are neighbors and best friends. They spend the long, hot summer days at the local beach club, dreading the end of the season when Claire will move to Florida with her grandparents.

After a storm washes the waves far ashore, the girls discover a mysterious presence at the bottom of a nearby pool – a mermaid separated from her family and in search of love. In Indigo, thirteen-year-old Martha Gimmer is convinced she is going through the worst time of her life. Her mother has died, she has grown almost six inches, and she must also put up with a woman who berates her lonely father with food and advice on how to behave as a girl at her most vulnerable age. Martha dreams of leaving Oak Grove, as do her best friend Trevor and his brother Eli, who have strange habits, such as salting their drinking water or releasing frogs from the school labs. But the three friends’ escape is interrupted by a storm that forces all the quirky characters to confront their true natures.
