Umjetnik u gladovanju
The book contains chronologically arranged stories published during Kafka's lifetime, except for the last four, which he approved for publication but, unfortunately, did not live to see publication.
Along with the standard quality translation by Zlatko Crnković, we also highlight the excellent illustrations by Igor Hofbauer and the foreword by Jorge Luis Borges, from which we highlight: I will never forget how I first read Kafka in some pretentious "modern" edition around 1917... Amidst all those ostentatious publications, the short text signed by Franz Kafka seemed to me, despite all my youthful pliability as a reader, unusually dry. Now, in my old age, I finally dare to admit that I was unforgivably literary insensitive; I was offered a discovery, and I passed it by... In Kafka's works, the essential features are plot and atmosphere, not narrative spiral or psychological portrait of the hero. This is why his stories are better than novels; therefore, we can safely say that this book of stories offers all the dimensions of this unique work.«
