Oženih se vešticom

Thorne Smith

A satire on the American petty-bourgeois life in which the magical witch Jennifer introduced a real revolution.

The story begins in the 17th century, when the witch Jennifer and her father are burned for witchcraft, and they blame the Wooley family for it. Before they die, they curse the male descendants of that family – that they will always have unhappy marriages. In modern times (during the novel's setting), Jennifer's ghost is freed from captivity and decides to take revenge on the last descendant of the family, Wallace Wooley, a politician who is preparing for a marriage of convenience. She plans to seduce him and ruin his life, but things get complicated when she really falls in love with him. As the story progresses, Jennifer uses magic, causes chaotic and comical situations, but at the same time confronts her own feelings. The conflict between revenge and love becomes the central theme of the novel. In the end, through a series of humorous and fantastic plots, there is a denouement in which love overcomes the curse, and the story ends in the spirit of a romantic comedy.
