Opasne veze je epistolarni roman objavljen 1782. godine, koji kroz seriju pisama prikazuje licemerje i manipulaciju francuskog aristokratskog društva uoči Francuske revolucije.
Glavni likovi, markiza de Mertej i vikont de Valmon, planiraju da ostvare svoje lične ciljeve – osvetu, zavođenje i moć.
Markiza de Mertej želi da se osveti za izdaju svog bivšeg ljubavnika tako što će nagovoriti Valmona da zavede mladu i nevinu Sesil de Volanž, koja se upravo vratila iz manastira i sprema se za brak. Istovremeno, Valmont želi da pridobije vrlinu i pobožnu gospođu de Turvel, izazov koji mu daje dodatnu motivaciju.
Kroz mrežu intriga, Valmont uspeva da zavede gospođu de Turvel, ali se, suprotno njegovim očekivanjima, zaljubljuje u nju. Istovremeno, Sesil, izmanipulisana i emocionalno uništena, završava u tragičnoj situaciji. Kada markiza de Mertej i Valmon raskinu savez, počinje njihova otvorena borba, koja se završava Valmontovom smrću u dvoboju i markizinim društvenim padom.
Roman brutalno razotkriva korupciju elite, licemerje oko pitanja morala i ljubavi, i koristi inovativnu formu pisama da prikaže psihološku dubinu likova. Smatra se jednim od vrhunaca francuske književnosti 18. veka.
