"Gorski vijenac" je epsko-dramsko djelo Petra II. Petrovića Njegoša, objavljeno 1847. godine. Radnja je smještena u Crnu Goru krajem 17. stoljeća i prikazuje borbu Crnogoraca protiv Osmanlija
The main motive is the investigation of poturica - dealing with those who converted to Islam - in order to preserve the Orthodox faith and national identity. The work is written in the form of a dialogue, and the central character is bishop Danilo, who faces moral and political dilemmas. Next to him, important heroes are Vuk Mićunović and Duke Batrić. Njegoš celebrates courage, honor and freedom, but also shows the tragedy of internal conflicts. "Mountain Wreath" is one of the most important works of South Slavic literature, full of philosophical reflections, folk wisdom and epic descriptions of the struggle for survival. Its strong language and poetic form make it a masterpiece.
